The great and mighty (and newly twitter-ized) Odyssey brought to my attention a DonorsChoose.org project this morning, and I knew immediately I had to get on board. Ms. Mucha's class is in a high poverty neighborhood in Baltimore, and she wants her kids to read The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. If you've read it (and go out and buy it immediately if you haven't), you know that I'm not exaggerating when I say that this is one of the most amazing and important books of the 21st century. Everyone should read this book, and I think kids growing up in Baltimore especially should read this book, because the story is a part of their local history that for a long time was unknown.
The project needs about $300 to be fully funded, and Odyssey and I want this done TODAY. The DonorsChoose board of directors donation match is still in effect through tomorrow, which means your donation can help twice as many students! Go donate!

Dr Becca has a new job (NJ) as a tenure-track assistant professor in the neurosciences at New Job University (NJU), located in New Job City (NJC). She is still fumbling, just making a little more money doing it.
Fine, fine...what's another $5?
Thank you so much for your support! Our project has been completely funded! I am a huge advocate for cross-curricular reading, and I know my students are so excited to begin!
