Gone Fishin’

Sep 02 2010 Published by under Blog Notes, [Etc]

I'm getting ready to travel over the long weekend and I'll be gone into next week. Since things are still being sorted out here, I'm just going to hold on posting for this week, but will hopefully be able to share a few things with you soon.

I'll be back!

Hold That Thought … While We Save the Server

Sep 01 2010 Published by under Blog Notes

So if you've been wandering around Scientopia, you've heard that we've had some server issues. (Or maybe you tried to come by earlier and found a oh-so-pleasant note saying the account had been suspended.) Our wonderful tech guy Mark is hard at working trying to fix things on the back end, but I'll need to turn off the comments until we get this thing sorted out.

I really appreciate those of you who take the time to share a note or two with me here. In the meantime, feel free to shoot me an email at comments[at]anthropologyinpractice[dot]com. If it's related to a post, I'll save it and manually add it in once we're up and running without the threat of suffocating the server.

You can also find me on Twitter @anthinpractice or you can visit Anthropology in Practice and comment your heart out.

Thanks for your patience!

The Urban Ethnographer Reporting for Duty

Aug 02 2010 Published by under [Etc], [Humanities&Social Science]

Hi there! My name is Krystal, and you may know me from Anthropology in Practice.  Welcome to The Urban Ethnographer (UE)! I'm excited to have a home here on Scientopia--it promises to be an interesting and rewarding experience.

So what can you expect from UE? Well, a look at daily life in New York City and the surrounding area in terms of anthropology. I try to explain every day events by situating them historically and ethnographically. I've loaded a few posts from Anthropology in Practice to help get the ball rolling and to set the tone--so you can get a sense for my voice and interests. (This is also the reason the archives look a bit sparse. But no worries, I'll soon fix that!) While the emphasis here will be on the New York metropolitan area, I hope to be able to expand this to cover urban areas around the world--including those that are long gone.

I plan to post here at least twice a week (Tue/Thurs) barring any major upset in my routines. You can expect to see some changes to the look and feel while I work out the kinks and settle in--and if you notice anything that just doesn't seem right, please let me know. In the meantime, take a look at the back posts and visit some of my illustrious neighbors, and come on back tomorrow for a peek at life in a summer town.
