Autumn Weekend Adventure

Sep 19 2010 Published by under [Etc]

I spent yesterday driving to, tailgating at, and recovering from the football game between the Missouri Tigers (Mizzou-RAH!) and the San Diego State Aztecs. My daughter and I made a girls' football road trip, driving the 5 hours or so from Omaha on Saturday morning. We met up with a cousin who attends MU for a tailgate party, and then took our seats while Marching Mizzou did their pre-game routines.

The Tigers looked promising on the initial drive, scoring an easy 7 points. Things got rougher after that, with a performance described as lackluster, at best.

The beasts did man up in the final 2 minutes to pull off the win. My offspring and I spent the night a few miles down the road, then finished our adventure this morning.

I'm hoping to fit in a "real" post between now and my next trip on Tuesday. In the meantime, enjoy your kids and some football!

Final Flings

$20 Worth of Summer Happiness

A few months ago, I found a pair of fuchsia beaded silk sandals on the sale rack at DSW. For just over $20, I came home with a pair of comfortable wedges that spent the summer with me. I wore them all over the Orlando Convention Center area. They took me through airports. They graced my feet at least twice a week.

Today, I took stock of my BFFs (Best Footwear Friends). The soles are beginning to loosen; can I fix them? Then I noticed that the silk has worn through on the sole in the toe area, a wound that cannot heal.

In short, these shoes have served with honor and will soon receive a decent burial.

After all, Labor Day is almost upon us. This Saturday the college football season kicks off. When I stroll out for the paper, the driveway feels cool under bare feet in the morning, unable to hold the prior day's heat overnight. Autumn marches toward us with closed toes and suede and darker colors.

But for the coming week, I will wear my hot pink summer shoes and enjoy my happy feet.

Scientopia's First Shoe Post

Verbenia, also available in black suede

For the dozen or so people who occasionally clicked over at my old blog, the current post will not be a surprise.

For the rest of you, this falls into the category "Fashion or lack thereof."

The fall fashion magazines have hit the stands, and I have already stained one with drool as I lust after new shoes. This pair, Verbenia from Nine West, caught my eye. They just went up on the company web site, and they sell for a mere $89. Dressy enough for a skirt, they remain solid enough to pair with jeans. I really could use a pair of blue shoes for fall and winter.

Besides, today is Scientopia's third; it was time for a shoe post!
