Game Day

Sep 24 2011 Published by under Sports, Uncategorized

So today is the game between My Missouri Tigers and the team associated with my current employer, one that happens to be ranked number one in the country right now. Last year the Tigers won in Columbia. Tonight they travel to Norman without the arm of Blaine Gabbert. Things may get ugly.

So this morning I put on an MU t-shirt and head out to buy junk food for football watching on the tele.

In the produce section (good nachos require chopped green onions and fresh pico de gallo) a man wearing the orange of Oklahoma State (a major rival of the OU Sooners) approached me. He told me I was incredibly brave to wear this shirt on game day, and that he hoped the Tigers could do it again.

No one in Crimson & Cream approached me in a threatening manner. No one even mentioned my shirt or window cling in the parking lot.

At kick-off I will text M-I-Z to my parents. Like good alumni, they will reply Z-O-U. I hope we have something to cheer about the rest of the evening.

Autumn Weekend Adventure

Sep 19 2010 Published by under [Etc]

I spent yesterday driving to, tailgating at, and recovering from the football game between the Missouri Tigers (Mizzou-RAH!) and the San Diego State Aztecs. My daughter and I made a girls' football road trip, driving the 5 hours or so from Omaha on Saturday morning. We met up with a cousin who attends MU for a tailgate party, and then took our seats while Marching Mizzou did their pre-game routines.

The Tigers looked promising on the initial drive, scoring an easy 7 points. Things got rougher after that, with a performance described as lackluster, at best.

The beasts did man up in the final 2 minutes to pull off the win. My offspring and I spent the night a few miles down the road, then finished our adventure this morning.

I'm hoping to fit in a "real" post between now and my next trip on Tuesday. In the meantime, enjoy your kids and some football!

A Weekend Away From Scientopia

College football starts up today, and I have tickets to a Border War. OK, they don't want us to call it a war any longer, but what else can it be when you take on your cross-the-border rivals?

I hope you have a chance to turn on the television, open a cold one, and slap some chips in guacamole.

Oh, yeah...  GO TIGERS!
